Filling Out the Form for LTD Benefits - Get Attorney Input

In this Legal Minute Video, TWWHB partner, Stephanie Taylor, will talk about the importance of having an experienced long-term disability benefits attorney on-board when preparing your initial application for benefits.  Specifically, letting your physician simply fill out the form requested by the insurance company—without any attorney supervision or input—could result in an initial denial of your benefits because the physician is not experienced enough to know what the insurance company is looking for.

Stephanie has helped numerous clients—whose applications for long-term disability benefits were initially denied—eventually recover the benefits they deserve.  We have included the complete script from Stephanie's video below.  If you or someone you know has been denied their long-term disability benefits, do not wait to contact one of our experienced insurance attorneys for a free, no-cost, no-obligation consultation to discuss your case and learn your rights.

Question:

Should you let your physician fill out the form for your long-term disability benefits without attorney input?

Answer by TWWHB Partner, Stephanie Taylor:

In a long-term disability insurance claim it is so important to have an attorney who has years of experience helping you file your claim.  The reason for that is they know what the insurance company is looking for and that sometimes is not really apparent if you don't have experience doing this kind of work.

The biggest mistake—or one of the biggest mistakes—people make is they have their physician or doctor fill out the form the insurance company asked them to have completed.  Well, the people [at the doctor's office] don't know what they're looking for.  So, the form is not completed in a way that supports their disability, and their claim is denied.  If you have an attorney that understands long-term disability claims working for you, they will make sure that that form your doctor completes gets completed in the correct way so your benefits claim will get granted when you first apply.
